Music
Mrs Lowcock, Music subject lead
Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, and life to everything… Without music, life would be an error. (Plato)
Music ignites all areas of a child’s development including intellectual, social-emotional, motor, language, and overall literacy. It helps the body and the mind work together.
Children experience music in many areas of their everyday life and therefore we strive to provide them with a wide range of stimulating activities in order to develop their curiosity and understanding of the subject.
At Kingsbridge Primary School, the intent is to deliver a high-quality, equitable curriculum, enabling all children to make progress regardless of their starting points and discover who they are as a musician. We want them to consider how music affects them and how they can aspire to become a listener, performer or composer in their current and future lives, whether for relaxation or a career. Within the school and wider community, they should develop an acceptance of the validity and importance of a wide variety of music.
The National Curriculum for music aims to ensure that pupils:
- Perform, listen to, review and evaluate music across a range of historical periods, genres, styles and traditions.
- Be taught to sing, create and compose music
- Understand and explore how music is created, produced and communicated.
