1:1 Teaching Assistant at Kingsbridge Community Primary School

Fixed Term Contract to start 6th September 2021

Kingsbridge Community Primary School are seeking to employ a teaching assistant who is deaf aware to support the learning, social and emotional needs of a pupil in Foundation Stage from September 2021.

You will be working with a pupil who uses cochlear implants to support their specific learning needs so that they can access the curriculum and socialise with their peers.  You will work under the direction of the class teachers, SENDCO and school leaders to lead and organise activities for the pupil.  Previous experience of working with children and young people with a hearing impairment is an advantage.

The successful applicant will need to:

  • Be responsible for checking and maintaining hearing equipment on a daily basis.
  • Support the child to be included in all aspects of the school, through modelling and remodelling of language used by others.
  • Develop and reinforce key vocabulary through regular pre and post teaching.
  • Act as an important communication link between home and school
  • Liaise with other professionals and deliver specialist support programmes as required.
  • Promote a positive understanding and awareness of deafness and its impact across the school.

We are looking for someone who is warm, caring, encouraging and patient, and who can quickly build a positive, trusting relationship with the child.  The ability to use your own initiative is essential and you must be dedicated to making a difference to children’s lives and to ensuring every child has the opportunities they deserve.

This post is on a fixed term contract attached to the pupil’s SEND funding and is subject to the continued attendance of the pupil at Kingsbridge Community Primary School and their need for support.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults, and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.  This role requires a DBS disclosure.

This role requires the ability to fulfil all spoken aspects of the role with confidence and fluency in English.

Closing Date: 16th July.  Interview date: 21st July

This post commences on 6th September 2021 and is a fixed Term Contract attached to an SEN pupil.  Hours are 27.5 hours per week as a TA on a Grade B (£9.43 per hour).
